Dr. Berry recently traveled to Honduras with the non-profit organization Medico to provide dental care to the rural residents of Lempira, the poorest state of Honduras. Honduras is the sixth poorest country in Latin America with half of the population below the poverty line so the need for any kind of medical care is very great in this area.
A school in the village of Taragual was transformed to clinic for a week where medical, optometry, dental, and pharmacy services where provided by a team of twelve to 2,000 locals of all ages. Many residents walked up to three hours to wait in line for care. This is the rainy season so it made traveling the dirt roads to the clinic even more challenging but with the nearest medical facility over two hours away by car, for many this was their only chance for any care.
